O’Dwyer Distillery: 8 Years of Passion, Innovation, and Gaspé Roots

Guest on the La Boîte Noire podcast hosted by Nelson Sergerie, Michael Briand, co-founder of O’Dwyer Distillery, reflects on eight years of history. From bold beginnings to its renowned Radoune gin — voted the best gin in Québec by Protégez-Vous — the Gaspé-based distillery has become a major player in the craft spirits industry. With exciting projects ahead, including non-alcoholic versions of its signature spirits and an alcoholic kombucha, the future looks rich in flavor and innovation.

O’Dwyer Distillery: A Journey Shaped by Passion

Since its founding eight years ago in Gaspé, O’Dwyer Distillery has been committed to creating unique artisanal spirits inspired by the Gaspé terroir.

Bold and Pioneering Beginnings

Founded by Michael Briand and Frédéric Jacques, the company emerged well before the microdistillery boom in Québec. The early stages were filled with challenges:

  • Limited access to financing.

  • Complex licensing requirements.

  • Installation of production equipment before official authorization.

Through determination and a clear vision, the dream became reality.

Innovation as a Signature

From the very beginning, the distillery made its mark with the world’s first forest mushroom gin. This flagship product, Radoune Gin, was named the best gin in Québec by Protégez-Vous, propelling the brand into the spotlight.

The approach has always been the same: combine originality and quality, often using locally sourced ingredients, to craft spirits that stand out.

Consistent Quality and Controlled Growth

Eight years on, the goal remains unchanged: maintain consistent taste and quality while expanding production gradually. Every bottle of Radoune is expected to deliver the same experience as the very first batch — a promise that has built lasting customer loyalty.

Signature Creations

Among the distillery’s standout products:

  • Radoune Gin – Signature aroma from four wild Gaspé mushrooms.

  • Aged Radoune Gin – Matured in rye, rum, or tequila barrels.

  • Pudding Stone – A rich and creamy liqueur with a distinctive profile.

  • Assérum – Maple-based aged spirit, somewhere between grappa and tequila.

The distillery recently collaborated with Émilie Bégin and Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge to create a 100% Gaspé gin made entirely from locally foraged ingredients.

A Vision for the Future

The next decade promises exciting developments:

  • Launch of non-alcoholic versions of signature products.

  • Development of an artisanal alcoholic kombucha.

  • New collaborations and limited-edition releases.

At O’Dwyer Distillery, every creation tells the story of a territory and its craftsmanship. After eight years of passion and innovation, the best is yet to come.
